Help Ohio Public Education
We need Leaders with a Plan, Not an Agenda
BOE races are non-partisan and so is HOPE. Our recommendation below is for District 4 for the Nov 7, 2006 election.
District 4 comprises Hamilton County and Warren County.
Incumbent Sam Schloemer has been a terrific public servant in his current term. He has spoken out forcefully and intelligently on important issues such as school funding, charter schools, science curriculum, closing the achievement gap, and the special issues of exceptional children.
Schloemer co-chaired the Ohio Board's Closing Achievement Gaps Task Force, and served on the National Association of State Boards of Education's Study Group on Closing the Achievement Gap: State Strategies That Work.
Schloemer is a reading mentor at Oyler Elementary School in the Cincinnati Public Schools' HOSTS Program. He sings as a supernumerary with the Cincinnati Opera, and volunteers his time with the Kairos Prison Ministry at Lebanon Correctional Institute.
Sam and his wife Pat sponsor the Lisa M. Moore Memorial Award at Mother of Mercy High School in Cincinnati. He has also been a board member of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Alzheimer Association.
Schloemer served in the U.S. Army (E-4), and earned his BS/BA degree from the University of Cincinnati and MBA from Xavier University.
Sam has four children, all of whom attended and graduated from public schools and hold college degrees. Schloemer is the proud Grandpa of ten grandchildren.
